Institutional portable basketball backstops come in lots of different sizes, because
of this it is important to know what your facility requirements are first so that you
can select a goal that will properly fit on your court.
Measure the distance from the out of bounds baseline of your court to the nearest wall
or obstruction, add to this measurement 4 feet. This resulting measurement is your
facilities "footprint". You will need to pick a goal with a footprint that is less than
or equal to this footprint measurement.
To find the footprint of a portable goal get the measurement of the goal when it is at
the regulation 10'playing height and measure from the rear of the base of the unit to
the playing face of the backboard and subtract 4 feet. This is the footprint of the
portable baseball goal.
We have a list of footprints of our portables that is sortable by clicking the column header
on our institutional basketball goals page.
In a regulation basketball court the playing face of the backboard protrudes 4' from
the out of bounds baseline of the court into the playing surface of the court. This is
why we subtract or add 4 feet in the calculations above, if your court is not a regulation
size court and you are not concerned about having the backboard protrude 4 feet into
the playing surface of the court then all you will need to know is the dimension from the
out of bounds baseline of the court to the nearest wall or obstruction, you then select
a goal with a base that when measured from front to back will fit into this dimension.
